Conil- a day at the beach

PiratesinSeville now have wheels!

We recently took ownership of our first car in Spain– whoop whoop! What else could we do but head out and try to find the beach….

Conil de la Frontera came highly recommended by our friend Pilar. She described it as a surfer town, beautiful beaches, friendly locals, relaxed and inviting. She was right on all accounts. We arrived after only about a 1 ½ hour drive from Seville.

There are a number of beaches in the area. We were at Los Bateles which is the main urban beach for Conil.

The road was quiet– save for a lot of motorbikes. There happened to be a big motorbike race in the nearby city of Jerez.IMG_2646 (1)

The town of Conil is very inviting. Located directly on the coast the beach runs long and wide. There is a big beach promenade and one feels they can walk for miles. The beach is accessed vis boardwalks that are lit up at night. The water was cold and the surfers were making the most of the waves.IMG_2589

The town was busy at night with tourists and locals mingling in the many bars and restaurants. We walked around for a while to spot a place for dinner– and were not disappointed. We saw small tables lining a small side street- all decorated and set for dinner guests.

We had to wander inside and it was amazing. Aptly named the “hidden corner” -El Escondite de Conil-this eatery boasts all fresh local, organic cuisine. These were tapas like we had not yet experienced. The wines were also local and delicious. The décor was cozy and unique and the staff (especially Jorge ) were very friendly and helpful. The food was a wonderful surprise and the experience was the icing on the cake for a night in Conil. Highly recommended!

All in all a great day and night stay – not too far from Sevilla and an easy drive!! More destinations to come…………

The opinions expressed here are our own. We are in no way connected to the restaurant mentioned.
